Papers, 1803-1910.

Correspondence, indentures, and business papers of William H. and James Brotherton, of North Carolina and Tennessee. About 60 letters from William Brotherton relate his experiences as a private in the Confederate Army, stationed in the vicinities of Richmond, Fredericksburg, and Orange Court House, Va., describing camp life, field activities, desertions from the ranks, and prisoners. The remainder of the letters are from James, who moved from North Carolina to east Tennessee, and concern the distilling of whiskey and brandy, and Ku-Klux Klan activities near Lynchburg, Tenn., in 1868.
